ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Learn from Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designers and award-winning industry leaders by completing studies in the Kitchen & Bath Professional Program. This program explores the design and planning of residential kitchens, baths, and support spaces with a focus on cabinetry, accessibility, safety, finishes, equipment, and design methods for today’s emerging designers. Learn the graphic and presentation standards necessary for a successful career as an NKBA Member.. The Kitchen & Bath Professional Program is qualified NKBA Education with a pathway to earning your Certified Kitchen & Bath Design (CKBD). Upon completion, you will have the skills and resources to complete the NKBA Professional Examination and Portfolio Evaluation.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Solve complex kitchen and bath design problems using the design process and their knowledge of principles, theories, and applications in analyzing user requirements.
- Provide kitchen and bath design services using effective oral, written, and visual communication employing a variety of means, methods, and technologies in both 2- and 3-dimensions.
- Produce kitchen and bath design solutions that constructively integrate with available building, environmental, and cabinet manufacturing systems, as well as prevailing codes and standards of use, maintenance, and sustainability.
- Specify and apply prevailing standards of use, maintenance, sustainability, regulatory compliance, and aesthetics to their solutions and finish materials.
- Provide professional services based on their body of knowledge with a standard of care that meets both users needs and protects the health, safety, and welfare of the homeowners ethically and legally.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
This program is a mix of virtual instructor led training (VILT) and asynchronous materials. Learners shall have a grasp of independent self-study. Modules contain short video content, reading assignments, fingering exercises, and practice exams. An online discussion board is available to all learners who participate. Participants in this program can expect a minimum study time of (3) hours per week in order with an average completion timeline of (6) months.
ADMISSION CRITERIA
This course is open to Certified Kitchen & Bath Specialists (CKBSp).
NKBA EDUCATION HOURS
This program provides a total of (22) NKBA Education Hours. With the Kitchen & Bath Fundamentals Program, an additional (30) hours of NKBA Education is earned to be aligned with the CKBD Eligibility Criteria.
EVALUATION
Following each module in the lesson, applicants shall complete fingering exercises (typically 2-3 questions) to check for understanding. At the end of each group of lessons in this program is a 25 question pre-testing exam with a minimum pass point is set at 70% for all evaluations. Additionally, (2) virtual instructor led training studio courses are evaluated on a pass/fail of each assignment requiring a pass of all assignments to progress in the program.
CERTIFICATION ELIGIBILITY
Certified Kitchen & Bath Specialist (CKBSp) are eligible to progress toward the NKBA Professional Examination and Portfolio Evaluation with successful completion resulting in being awarded the Certified Kitchen & Bath Designer (CKBD) designation.
